Become a Host Family
Embrace the adventure of cultural exchange and share in an unforgettable journey of friendship, learning, and personal growth that will change lives forever!
Here's what you get:
Cultural exchange, broadening your family’s perspectives and fostering global awareness.
It promotes personal growth and can lead to lifelong connections with the student, creating friendships that span continents.
Your family benefits from educational opportunities, inspiring curiosity about different cultures and languages.
Contributes to a more inclusive and connected community, enhancing international goodwill and understanding.
What are the responsibilities of a host family?
Host families provide a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment, including meals, a comfortable living space, and guidance to help the student adapt to local life and culture.
Most of our students arrive in august for a 10 month academic stay. They must return to their home country 7 to 10 days after the last day of school. There are a few students who only come for a semester. Some arrive in January and stay until December.
We accept many types of families: single parent families, families with children of any age, childless families and families with grown children.
Hosting means you open your heart and home to a teenager from another country. You provide the same loving, caring environment for them as you do a member of your own family.
No, but host families receive a $50.00 tax deduction (Charitable Contribution) per month for each month the students live with you. The US State Department mandates that all J-1 host families must be volunteer to embrace the true concept of cultural exchange, and not as a means of monetary gain.
